Virat Kohli’s Pakistani fan goes to jail for hoisting Tri-color

Who could have thought that being a die hard fan of someone can lead to a prison. Yes, it recently happened in Pakistan, Virat Kohli’s Die hard Pakistani fan Draz faces 10 years imprisonment for showing his love for his Idol.

As reported by TimesNow, 22-year old Pakistani man Draz from Okara district of Punjab province was arrested on 26th January for hoisting Indian Tri-color on his rooftop.

Earlier in a T20 match between India and Australia played on 26th January Kohli knocked match winning 90 runs.

To show his support and love for his idol Draz hoisted Indian Tri-Color atop his home, Police raided the house and arrested Draz after they received a complaint that he has hoisted Tri-color on his house.

Police arrested him under section 123-A of Pakistan Penal Code and 16 Maintenance of Public Order against him. The section 123-A (acts of damaging the sovereignty of the country) carries maximum punishment of 10 years in jail or fine or both.

Draz, a tailor by profession pleaded that he should be pardoned as he was unaware that he committed any crime and he hoisted Indian Flag just to show his love for Virat Kohli and he should be seen only as “an Indian cricketer’s fan.”

Earlier talking to media Draz said:

“I am a big fan of Virat Kohli. I support the Indian team because of Kohli. Hoisting of Indian flag on the rooftop of house only shows my love for the Indian cricketer.”

Police had asked for his physical remand for further investigation into the case, however, the judge sent him to jail on judicial remand.

Police seized the flag and Kohli’s posters and pictures from Draz’s home.
